Ways To Maintain Your Ears Healthy

Imagine the world without any sound? Not able to respond or ultimately not able to speak! The human body is designed in a way that our ears are interconnected to other senses of our body like, the sense of talking or speaking.

You can’t act or respond or speak like a normal human body/person if you don’t have a sense of hearing. That’s why the ears act as a very important sense of organ in our lives.

How To Keep Your Ears Healthy? Ways To Maintain

Your ears are responding servers for receiving and sending sound and balanced information to your brain and that is why it’s important to keep them clean, healthy, and hygienic.

Here are some tips that you can do in your daily lifestyle to keep your ears healthy and protect them from usual hearing problems.

The DONTs

  •  Usage of ear swabs

Ever wonder why we get wax in our ears? A little bit of wax is natural and is also important.

Our body is defined in a way to self-cleansing itself and so are ears. Ear wax stops the dust particles to enter the canals and when inserting anything inside your ear canal or constant removal of wax can risk damaging sensitive organs like the eardrum. For excessive ear wax, cleaning the canal with a damp towel or reaching out for professional help is always better.

Wax removable solutions are also available over the counter for softening the wax and flowing out on their own.

  • Loud Noise in Headphones

Turn the volume down. According to the World Health Organization, 1.1 billion young adults and teenagers are at a risk for noise-induced hearing loss

If you are into music and believe your headphones are your only alibi, then follow a 60/60 rule for keeping a healthy hearing. The rule is to use headphones at no more than 60% volume for not more than 60 minutes a day.

Earbuds can be dangerous as they fit just next to the eardrum, in that case, over-the-ear headphones are the best option.

Just a reminder that any loud music, not just through headphones but music in social events or cracker noises can result in noise-induced hearing loss.

The DOs

  • Earplugs

Usage of Earplugs around high and loud music can be a good option for protection from hearing loss.

According to the research, almost 15% of Americans have noise-induced hearing loss issues because of the loud work environment.

Earplugs are easy options to reduce the noisy environment around you. Your local health provider can also provide you with a custom-fitted pair of earplugs that are just for you so you can manage the levels of sound according to you.

Clubs, Social events, parties, lawnmowers, chainsaws, are places where you can get a dangerously high level of sound, in that case, earplugs are the most convenient option.

  • Recovery time for ears

Like your other senses in your body, your ears need time to recover to get back in the game. Loud noises for a prolonged period can have an adverse effect on the ears.

The tip here is to take a break! Get out, if you are in a bar or concert, or any noisy place, take a five-minute off-break from the loud noises and have your sense get some rest.

According to the research, your ears require an average of 16 hours of quiet time from the recovery of a loud noisy night

  • Dry Ears

Moisture is a gateway to bacteria and other infections. Keeping your ears clean and dry will not let any bacteria form in the first place or enter the ear canal.

Dry-towel your ears after taking a bath or swimming session is very important for protection against any infections.

If you feel any moisture or water inside your ear, tilt your head to one side and tug lightly on the ear lobe to get the water out.

Watch Out For The Signs If Your Ear Doesn’t Function Right

You might experience symptoms like hearing loss, balancing issues, delayed speech processing, and others.

A regular healthcare checkup is always a good option. Do not hesitate to make an appointment with your nearby specialist or physician in case of any sign of hearing loss or emergency
